Long overdue, ATVFiles 1.2.0 has been released.  This release fully supports the Apple TV 2.3 update, as well as Apple TV 2.1.  Older versions (and Leopard’s Front Row) are no longer officially supported.

This update can be found in Software Menu, or can be downloaded here.  You can find more details and installation instructions at the ATVFiles page.

What’s new in version 1.2.0?

  • Support for Apple TV 2.2 and 2.3.
    • A more robust implementation of stacking and playlist playback.
    • Perian 1.1.2 (or newer) is required for AC3 passthrough on Apple TV 2.2 or newer.
  • Drop official support for Apple TV versions older than 2.1.

I’m dropping support for versions previous than Apple TV 2.1 mainly because I can’t justify spending the effort to fully test it on those versions.  I’m going back to a policy of supporting the current and one previous version of the Apple TV OS.  In this instance, I’m not counting Apple TV 2.2 as existing.

As for Leopard support, it should continue to run there, I just haven’t tested it at all.  It’s not a priority for me anymore.  Patches to fix it or support old versions will be gladly accepted.

Support and discussion can be found in the ATVFiles forum and the ATVFiles 1.2.0 thread.

Yes, I’ve started another blog.  Maybe it’s the same blog, since one lived here before.  I don’t know.

If I keep active with this blog this time, expect to see some blogging about PHP and Rails, along with whatever else I feel like.  If not, well, the ATVFiles downloads will still be here.
